Zermatt 5 Lakes hike
Took a visit to Zermatt Switzerland and did a popular and spectacular hike in Zermatt. The 5 lakes hike. Elevation 7500 ft MSL. Fitness and breathing are a big consideration as the elevation takes its toll on your energy and stamina. Weather can change quickly so be equipped. I brought a rain coat and needed it as on the way down thunderstorms started and it got windy and rainy very quickly.
There are some supplies along the entire route, restaurants, water etc. Bring an extra battery for your phone or camera as there is no where to charge anything. And good hiking shoes is a must for the sections that I did. Walking sticks a plus as terrain can be loose and uneven and narrow at points.
I started from Geneva and took the train to Visp and connected to Zermatt. The train system is Switzerland is good and you can get to Zermatt a number of different ways, but not by car. Only trains go into Zermatt.

Total time 3.5 hrs but expect more as the views are incredible and stopping to take photos and eating. I suggest leaving around 9am as I did.

These are the apps I used for this journey. I booked my tickets on the Trainline app and I can get specific train info from the SBB Mobile app such as platform number, occupancy of the train, real time arrival and departures. Matterhorn app is a multifunction app for using in Zermatt. I booked my hotel thru Booking and hello Geneva is a multi purpose app also.

The letter beside indicates which car and class that car is.

Each train car will have a 1 or 2 on it indicating the class of ticket.

The direction to Visp is take the train to Brig. The box on the sign at the bottom with the 1 or 2 indicates 1st class(white box) or 2nd class(blue box) ticket and the related letter(A B etc) of where to board on the platform.
