Join Hong Kong Hikers Club for something a little different.
Welcome to our first Discovery Wednesday Mystery Hike, where the destination remains a secret until shortly before the event begins. Instead of focusing on a famous trail or well-known landmark, this adventure is all about exploration, curiosity, and discovering a hidden side of Hong Kong together.
The route, starting location, and highlights will remain under wraps until closer to the event date. What we can promise is that we've selected a scenic and enjoyable route designed to provide a rewarding midweek escape from the city, great company, and a few surprises along the way.
Will we be following coastal paths, wandering through hidden countryside trails, discovering a quiet reservoir, exploring forgotten villages, or uncovering a lesser-known viewpoint?
You'll have to join us to find out.

Explore • Connect • Inspire
Join Hong Kong Hikers Club for an unforgettable journey through one of Hong Kong's most spectacular wilderness areas. This challenging coastal adventure takes us deep into the heart of Sai Kung East Country Park, where dramatic mountain scenery, secluded beaches, crystal-clear waters, and rugged trails combine to create an experience unlike any other in Hong Kong.
**** SUBJECT TO WEATHER CONDITIONS ****
Starting from Sai Wan Pavilion, we will descend towards the stunning coastline before exploring a series of remote beaches including Sai Wan, Ham Tin Wan, Tai Wan, and Tung Wan. Along the way, we'll pass through some of the most beautiful landscapes Hong Kong has to offer, featuring pristine beaches, rolling hills, remote countryside, and breathtaking ocean views.
Unlike our shorter social hikes, this is a genuine outdoor adventure requiring preparation, endurance, and self-sufficiency, although we are a group and do watch out for each other. The route includes some climbs, although no big elevation changes, long walking sections, and a few opportunities to purchase food or refill water once we leave the starting area. Participants should arrive prepared to carry everything needed for the day although we can replenish things along the way. Maybe even an opportunity for a swim!
As we make our way through this remarkable landscape, we'll experience a side of Hong Kong that few visitors ever discover before eventually finishing at Pak Tam Au, where transport connections will take us back towards the city.

Join Hong Kong Hikers Club for an unforgettable journey across the rugged western coastline of Lantau Island. Combining remote countryside, scenic coastal paths, traditional villages, and breathtaking sea views, this hike offers a completely different side of Hong Kong, far away from the city's busy streets and towering skyline. And get to see Fan Lau historic fort.

Starting from Shek Pik Reservoir, we will follow sections of the famous Lantau Trail, traversing beautiful coastal landscapes and peaceful countryside. Along the way, we'll encounter dramatic ocean views, quiet bays, hidden beaches, and traditional rural scenery that few visitors ever experience.
As we make our way westward, the trail offers a fascinating glimpse into Lantau's rich history and natural beauty before concluding in the unique fishing village of Tai O, often referred to as the "Venice of Hong Kong" due to its iconic stilt houses and waterways.
Unlike many shorter urban hikes, this route requires participants to come prepared for a full day on the trail. There are limited opportunities to purchase supplies during the hike, so carrying sufficient water and food is essential.
Highlights
What to Bring
Important Note
⚠️ This is a longer hike with limited access to shops and water refills along much of the route, although there is small restaurant/store along the way to stop and and rest/replenish supplies.
Participants should be comfortable hiking for several hours and carrying sufficient water, food, and supplies for the day. While the trail is technically less demanding than mountain hikes such as Lion Rock or Lantau Peak, the distance and exposure require good preparation and reasonable fitness.
Getting There
From Tung Chung MTR Station, take New Lantao Bus Route 11 or other services towards Tai O / Shek Pik and alight at Shek Pik Reservoir.
Please arrive 10 minutes before the scheduled start time so we can begin the hike promptly.
Post-Hike Social
Upon arrival in Tai O, participants are welcome to join us for a well-deserved meal and refreshments while enjoying the atmosphere of one of Hong Kong's most charming fishing villages.
Whether you're drawn by the coastal scenery, the remote wilderness, the cultural heritage of Tai O, or simply the opportunity to spend a rewarding day outdoors with fellow adventurers, this route offers one of the most unique hiking experiences in Hong Kong.
Come and discover a side of Lantau Island that many people never get to see.
Join Hong Kong Hikers Club for an unforgettable ascent to Tai Mo Shan, Hong Kong's highest mountain at 957 metres above sea level. This spectacular route combines lush forest trails, cascading waterfalls, mountain scenery, and a rewarding summit experience, making it one of the most iconic hiking adventures in Hong Kong.
**** SUBJECT TO WEATHER CONDITIONS ****
Starting from Ng Tung Chai, we will follow one of Hong Kong's most beautiful waterfall trails, passing through a series of impressive cascades hidden within dense woodland. Along the way, we'll encounter the famous Bottom Fall, Middle Fall, Main Fall, and Scatter Fall, each offering unique photographic opportunities and a refreshing contrast to the urban landscape.
Leaving the waterfalls behind, the trail climbs steadily through forest and mountain terrain before emerging onto the upper slopes of Tai Mo Shan. As we gain elevation, sweeping views begin to unfold across the New Territories, Reservoir Islands, and the surrounding countryside.
Reaching the summit rewards hikers with breathtaking panoramic views from the highest point in Hong Kong. On particularly clear days, visibility can extend far across the territory and into the surrounding waters.
Unlike shorter social hikes, this route demands stamina and preparation. The continuous ascent, significant elevation gain, and extended duration make this one of the club's more challenging adventures and a perfect progression hike for members looking to take on a bigger mountain challenge.
