    Reach the Roof of Lantau: Lantau Peak Hike

    Join Hong Kong Hikers Club for an unforgettable ascent to Lantau Peak (Fung Wong Shan), the second-highest mountain in Hong Kong at 934 metres above sea level. This challenging but immensely rewarding hike takes us through dramatic mountain scenery, along the famous Lantau Trail, and to one of the most spectacular viewpoints in the territory.


    **** SUBJECT TO WEATHER CONDITIONS ****


    Starting from Pak Kung Au, we will steadily climb towards the summit, gaining breathtaking views over Lantau Island, Shek Pik Reservoir, Ngong Ping, Hong Kong International Airport, and the South China Sea. After reaching the summit, we descend via the iconic mountain trail towards the Wisdom Path and Ngong Ping Village, home to the famous Tian Tan Buddha.

    Important Note

    This hike involves a substantial ascent and long stair sections. Participants should have a reasonable level of fitness and be comfortable with mountain hiking and extended uphill climbs.


    Getting There

    From Tung Chung MTR Station, take New Lantao Bus routes 3M, 11, 11A, or 23 and alight at Pak Kung Au. The meeting point is directly at the bus stop.


    Post-Hike Social

    After the hike, participants are welcome to join us at Ngong Ping Village for refreshments before returning to Tung Chung. This is a great opportunity to relax, meet fellow hikers, and celebrate conquering one of Hong Kong's most iconic peaks.

    Join Hong Kong Hikers Club for an unforgettable journey through one of Hong Kong's most spectacular wilderness areas. This challenging coastal adventure takes us deep into the heart of Sai Kung East Country Park, where dramatic mountain scenery, secluded beaches, crystal-clear waters, and rugged trails combine to create an experience unlike any other in Hong Kong.


    **** SUBJECT TO WEATHER CONDITIONS ****


    Starting from Sai Wan Pavilion, we will descend towards the stunning coastline before exploring a series of remote beaches including Sai Wan, Ham Tin Wan, Tai Wan, and Tung Wan. Along the way, we'll pass through some of the most beautiful landscapes Hong Kong has to offer, featuring pristine beaches, rolling hills, remote countryside, and breathtaking ocean views.


    Unlike our shorter social hikes, this is a genuine outdoor adventure requiring preparation, endurance, and self-sufficiency, although we are a group and do watch out for each other. The route includes some climbs, although no big elevation changes, long walking sections, and a few opportunities to purchase food or refill water once we leave the starting area. Participants should arrive prepared to carry everything needed for the day although we can replenish things along the way. Maybe even an opportunity for a swim!


    As we make our way through this remarkable landscape, we'll experience a side of Hong Kong that few visitors ever discover before eventually finishing at Pak Tam Au, where transport connections will take us back towards the city.

    10. Personal first aid items if required


    Important Note

    ⚠️ This hike is not suitable for beginners. Not an expert trail but it is somewhat long so some physical fitness will help.


    Participants should be comfortable hiking for 4-5 hours across some elevated terrain while carrying sufficient water and supplies. There are opportunities to purchase some supplies along the way so please bring some cash. Please come fully prepared.


    Post-Hike Social

    After the hike, participants are welcome to join us for food and refreshments in the Sai Kung area before heading home. Details will be shared closer to the event date. There are buses and taxis at the end to get back to Saikung.

    Join Hong Kong Hikers Club for an unforgettable journey across the rugged western coastline of Lantau Island. Combining remote countryside, scenic coastal paths, traditional villages, and breathtaking sea views, this hike offers a completely different side of Hong Kong, far away from the city's busy streets and towering skyline. And get to see Fan Lau historic fort.


    **** SUBJECT TO WEATHER CONDITIONS ****


    Starting from Shek Pik Reservoir, we will follow sections of the famous Lantau Trail, traversing beautiful coastal landscapes and peaceful countryside. Along the way, we'll encounter dramatic ocean views, quiet bays, hidden beaches, and traditional rural scenery that few visitors ever experience.


    As we make our way westward, the trail offers a fascinating glimpse into Lantau's rich history and natural beauty before concluding in the unique fishing village of Tai O, often referred to as the "Venice of Hong Kong" due to its iconic stilt houses and waterways.


    Unlike many shorter urban hikes, this route requires participants to come prepared for a full day on the trail. There are limited opportunities to purchase supplies during the hike, so carrying sufficient water and food is essential.

    Important Note

    ⚠️ This is a longer hike with limited access to shops and water refills along much of the route, although there is small restaurant/store along the way to stop and and rest/replenish supplies.


    Participants should be comfortable hiking for several hours and carrying sufficient water, food, and supplies for the day. While the trail is technically less demanding than mountain hikes such as Lion Rock or Lantau Peak, the distance and exposure require good preparation and reasonable fitness.


    Getting There

    From Tung Chung MTR Station, take New Lantao Bus Route 11 or other services towards Tai O / Shek Pik and alight at Shek Pik Reservoir.


    Please arrive 10 minutes before the scheduled start time so we can begin the hike promptly.


    Post-Hike Social

    Upon arrival in Tai O, participants are welcome to join us for a well-deserved meal and refreshments while enjoying the atmosphere of one of Hong Kong's most charming fishing villages.


    Whether you're drawn by the coastal scenery, the remote wilderness, the cultural heritage of Tai O, or simply the opportunity to spend a rewarding day outdoors with fellow adventurers, this route offers one of the most unique hiking experiences in Hong Kong.


    Come and discover a side of Lantau Island that many people never get to see.

    Join Hong Kong Hikers Club for an unforgettable ascent to Tai Mo Shan, Hong Kong's highest mountain at 957 metres above sea level. This spectacular route combines lush forest trails, cascading waterfalls, mountain scenery, and a rewarding summit experience, making it one of the most iconic hiking adventures in Hong Kong.

    Starting from Ng Tung Chai, we will follow one of Hong Kong's most beautiful waterfall trails, passing through a series of impressive cascades hidden within dense woodland. Along the way, we'll encounter the famous Bottom Fall, Middle Fall, Main Fall, and Scatter Fall, each offering unique photographic opportunities and a refreshing contrast to the urban landscape.


    Leaving the waterfalls behind, the trail climbs steadily through forest and mountain terrain before emerging onto the upper slopes of Tai Mo Shan. As we gain elevation, sweeping views begin to unfold across the New Territories, Reservoir Islands, and the surrounding countryside.


    Reaching the summit rewards hikers with breathtaking panoramic views from the highest point in Hong Kong. On particularly clear days, visibility can extend far across the territory and into the surrounding waters.


    Unlike shorter social hikes, this route demands stamina and preparation. The continuous ascent, significant elevation gain, and extended duration make this one of the club's more challenging adventures and a perfect progression hike for members looking to take on a bigger mountain challenge.

    Important Note

    ⚠️ This is a difficult hike involving a substantial ascent and prolonged uphill walking.


    Participants should be comfortable hiking for 5-6 hours across steep terrain while carrying their own supplies. Opportunities to purchase food or drinks during the hike are extremely limited, so please ensure you bring sufficient water and nutrition for the day.


    While the waterfalls provide several excellent rest stops, the climb to Tai Mo Shan remains physically demanding and should not be underestimated.


    Getting There

    From Tai Po Market MTR Station, take KMB Bus 64K towards Yuen Long and alight at Ng Tung Chai.


    Alternatively, participants travelling from Kowloon can reach the meeting point via Tai Po Market Station and continue by local bus.


    Please arrive 10 minutes before the scheduled start time so we can begin the hike promptly.


    Post-Hike Social

    After the hike, participants are welcome to join us for refreshments and a well-earned meal in the Tai Po area before heading home.
