Today’s hike from Discovery Bay to Mui Wo turned out to be one of those days that reminded us why we enjoy getting out on the trails.
Conditions were typical for a Hong Kong summer. It was hot, humid, and demanding from the moment we set off. Fortunately, the weather stayed on our side throughout the day. Despite forecasts earlier in the week suggesting possible showers, we experienced no rain at all, and there was little to no wind along most of the route.

The climb was undoubtedly the biggest challenge of the day. The steady elevation gain tested the legs and required a few extra water breaks along the way. While the humidity made the ascent feel tougher than the numbers on the map might suggest, the effort was rewarded with some stunning views across Lantau and the surrounding coastline.
The route offered a mixture of shaded sections and more exposed stretches, where the summer sun reminded us that hydration and pacing are essential. As always, a good hiking group, positive conversation, and a shared goal helped make the climb more enjoyable.
Reaching Mui Wo felt particularly satisfying. After the challenging terrain and warm conditions, arriving at Silver Mine Bay Beach provided the perfect finish to the day. The sight of the water, the relaxed atmosphere, and the chance to cool down made the final kilometres worthwhile.
No hike is truly complete without some social time afterwards, and a refreshing drink near the ferry pier was a welcome reward for everyone who made the journey. It was a simple but fitting way to celebrate a successful day on the trail.
Overall, today's hike was challenging but highly rewarding. Hot and humid conditions tested our endurance, but clear skies, excellent visibility, beautiful views, and good company made it a memorable day from Discovery Bay to Mui Wo.
Distance covered, elevation conquered, and plenty of sweat earned. Another great day on the trails of Lantau Island.
