Wong Shek pier via Ko Lau Wan to Pak Tam Au hike

A beautiful but somewhat challenging hike today.

Difficulty 8/10 due to lots of mostly overgrown paths and some very uneven footing.

Duration of hike was 3:30 hrs. There is only 1 refreshment stop long the way about 2:30 hrs into the hike so plan your supplies accordingly.

One the apps I always use when hiking is Maps.me. Very helpful in finding your way in real time. Most hiking apps only have “maintained trails” where as Maps.me has all the trails.

Recommend leg covering or long pants to avoid lots of scratches

We started from Wong Shek pier. You can get there via taxi, 96R bus from diamond hill or the 94 bus.

We took a taxi from Tin Hau and it was a quick 45 min to the pier and about $300 HKD.

From the pier take the ferry to Ko Lau Wan and begin the hike on the right after getting off the ferry.

The first 2 hours of the hike will be mostly uphill and rough overgrown pathways with uneven footing so please be careful. I always recommend walking sticks.

There are some spectacular views along side Sharp peak.

Once you join the MacLeHose trail it is relatively easy and paved all the way.

Once you reach Pak Tam Au there is a public washroom and a bus stop. Somewhat difficult to get a taxi but there is a bus stop. We took the 289R to Sha Tin MTR station. There is also the 96R and 94 stop there.
