Join us for a scenic summer walk from Discovery Bay to Mui Wo, taking the picturesque coastal route via the historic Trappist Monastery.

This trail is particularly well suited for this time of year, as much of the route follows shaded paths and waterfront sections, offering a more comfortable alternative to the exposed ridge trails that can be challenging during Hong Kong's hot and humid summer months.

Starting in Discovery Bay, we will enjoy beautiful sea views and a gentle ascent before reaching the tranquil monastery area. From there, the trail continues through woodland and coastal scenery towards Mui Wo, where participants can relax with refreshments and enjoy the laid-back atmosphere of Lantau Island.

This 10km loop takes us deep into a mature forest, offering a true wilderness escape right in our backyard. It is completely shaded, making it a fantastic getaway from the city heat, though you can expect a good workout with some steady climbs!

Highlights

1. Total Canopy Cover: Walk under a dense, cooling forest roof almost the entire time.
2. Wildlife Hotspot: Keep your eyes and ears open for rare birds, butterflies, and monkeys.
3. Nature Immersion: Peaceful streams, earthen paths, and a complete break from city noises.

What to Bring

1. At least 1.5L to 2L of water (there are no shops inside the reserve)
2. Lunch for those who need more than a snack during the break
3. High-strength mosquito/bug repellent (crucial for this forest)

We will take a short bus or minibus ride from the meetup point to the trailhead at Chung Tsai Yuen.

We will return to the same transit point afterward for an optional group lunch/drinks!

From the summit, enjoy spectacular 360° views of Victoria Harbour, Kowloon, Sha Tin, Tolo Harbour, and the surrounding mountains before descending via Shatin Pass and the scenic Tsz Sha Ancient Trail.
